What Am I Thinking?!

This is what time I left my house this morning. (If you know me at all, you know I am NOT a morning person. This is EARLY for me!)

This is what I left the house to go do!
I think I may have lost my mind!

Milestone Day

I have to brag about myself for just a little bit. Pardon my vanity.

Holly and I ran a 10k Saturday, and I had a personal best time for that distance. I beat my previous time by 50 seconds. It may not sound like a lot, but for a runner like me, improving by almost 1 minute is significant. I ran 6.2 miles in 56:03 minutes which is equal to a 9:02/mile! I was very excited.

When I got home from the race, I signed up for a women's triathlon in August! Crazy? Maybe, but I'm excited to give it a try. It wasn't an impulsive decision either (something I'm known to do.) I've been thinking about it for a while, but just haven't had the nerves to commit. I decided I needed to take a risk and go for it! It's a sprint distance which means a 500 yard swim, 15 mile bike, and a 5k. Each event on their own doesn't scare me too much, but the thought of combining them all one after another is a bit overwhelming, but that's what training is for.

I'm sure I have a lot to learn, but I'm excited for the challenge and this will keep motivated throughout the summer to keep exercising!

We ran with the NF group. Although, due to my poor sense of direction, we missed the picture.

Just before the start!

Do I look focused, or what?!

Alma Mater

How is it possible that I have been out of college for almost 13 years? On one hand, it feels like I was just there, but on the other, I feel like I've forgotten so much of what life then was like. What on earth did I think I needed to be stressed out about?

We took my dad and the boys up to Bethel to visit my mom who has worked in the library for several years. Bethel has added some new buildings since Brian and I were both there, and most recently, they added a BEAUTIFUL new dining center. Vaulted ceilings, pretty wood work, selections galore of food, and get this all you Bethel grads....there's is even a place called "The Underground" that is basically a non-alcoholic night-club. Dance floor and all! My, how times have changed!

It was a lot of fun to walk around on a a beautiful spring evening and reminisce about the good ol' days. We even walked through Arden Village East, and Brian knocked on the door of his old townhouse, told the unsuspecting guy and the gal I presume is his girlfried, that he used to live there and asked if he could come inside and check it out. I guess I wasn't all that surprised when they smiled and said, "Sure, come on in!" How do you say no to a complete stranger who has knocked on your door and asked to come in, and has 3 small children, a wife, a his in-laws all standing there with him?!

Click here to see more pictures of the new building.

1992 and 1996 grads

Where do college kids get these ideas? A cable stretched between 2 buildings...why not toss our old tennis shoes up there. Pretty clever. The boys thought this was funny.

NO SELF-CONTROL!!!

I've been working hard to make better food choices and exercise regularly. I've seen some positive results and really want to maintain this "healthier" lifestyle.

I've been running a lot. My sister and I cranked out 7 miles this morning. But the draw back to running a long distance like that is that I am STARVING later in the day. You would think that I'd be motivated to eat healthy after running for 70+ minutes. But unfortunately, I'm not.

BREAKFAST (Immediately after the run)
2 cups of coffee
5...yes 5!...buttermilk cinnamon muffins

LUNCH
turkey sandwich
chips
2 no bake oatmeal cookies

SUPPER
Taco Bell: Mexican pizza, 2-3 leftover quesadilla slices, leftover taco
1 more buttermilk cinnamon muffin

AND THE KICKER...
1/2 pan of Rice Krispy bars

I'm hoping I'll be so embarrassed to see this all in writing that I'll think before I eat next time.

Pathetic. And the roof of my mouth hurts from all the bars.

Baseball Season

Baseball season is upon us, and Brian is a happy man. He's part of a fantasy baseball league at school so anytime there is a baseball game on TV, which is pretty much ALL the time, he needs to check online to see how his fantasy team is doing. Hooray!

He recently was negotiating a new cable price with the cable company, and in the process he got them to add the MLB network at a very low cost. Yippee!!

Both Ben and Matt will be playing baseball this spring which means 4 nights a week of Little League. Can't Wait! (Actually, that one is true. I do love watching them play!)

The boys and Brian have been playing lots of catch in the yard lately, and our whole family went to the nearby field yesterday and hit some balls and ran the bases.

With 3 boys, what else could I expect to be doing during the spring?

PS...I don't know what the deal was with not being able to post comments . It looks like it's working now.

Bullies

I am so SICK of bullies and bad behavior! This has been one of my most difficult years teaching, and I've been teaching for 12 years. Almost every day, no exaggeration, my job-share partner and I are dealing with some type of bullying issue. Girls being caddy to girls. Boys pushing other boys out of the back seat of the bus. Name-calling. Excluding others at recess. Cheating. Lying. Stealing. I'm on the phone daily with parents. I email parents daily. I've driven a student home because he refused to ride the bus with a boy who had called him a name and missed his bus home. We've also had one set of parents tell us the reason for their son's poor academic performance was a refelction on us, so now we're dealing with tough parents, too! This is why I haven't had time to blog. Every night this week, I've been emailing or on the phone dealing with various issues.

Perhaps they seem trivial to you, but believe me, to the parents of the kids who are being picked on, these are not trivial matters, and they want action and they want it NOW!

I AM READY FOR THIS YEAR TO BE DONE!

I AM SO THANKFUL I ONLY HAVE TO BE WITH THIS CLASS 1/2 THE DAY!

I feel HORRIBLE for the good kids in our room. It's not fair that they have to put up with this.

And now, my son is a bully too!

Spring Break

I am on spring break this week! Since we juggle 3 different school district calendars, it's a rare occasion when all of our spring breaks line up. Brian was on break two weeks ago, and the boys have school 3 days this week and then are off for a few days. I am enjoying time at home and tackling some spring cleaning projects. While Brian was on break, I worked on washing our screens and windows. That was a big job, but one that desperately needed to be done. This week, I've been organizing closets and the pantry, and doing a little baking.

I made these no bake cookies that my sister introduced me to. When I first made them, the boys were put off by the fact that there was oatmeal in them. Oatmeal is relatively healthy you know, so that makes it taboo for our boys! However, after convincing them to try one, they gobbled them up and now call them "Disgusting Cookies" (because they first called them disgusting before they had tried them) and eat them hand over fist!

After cleaning out my pantry this morning, I came across a 1/2 eaten box of cornflakes and decided to look online to see what I could make with them. I found a recipe for Coconut-Cornflake Cookies that was very quick and easy, and I thought tasted very good.

The week is going way too fast as always, and I'm trying to recharge and get ready for the last push until the end of the school year!

The Lost Has Been Found

A year or so ago, Matt lost his beloved Lightning McQueen and Chick Hicks cars. You may recall from this post, how much he loves his cars! We searched high and low for those darn cars. I absolutely HATE to lose things, and I am a notoriously good "finder". It drove me nuts when I couldn't find these cars, but I finally had to give in and replace what had been lost. We finally came to the conclusion that Adam had thrown them away while he was in his "fascinated with the pull-out garbage can" phase.

Well, I am happy to report, the original 2 cars have been found! I pulled out my bag of Easter decorations today and when I began to take things out, I came across these.

I win again!

Moorsfour

Several years ago when we were changing our email service, we made our user name Moorsfour because there were 4 of us at the time. A few years later, Adam came along and the 4 was now 5, but out of laziness, I never changed the email name, instead letting the 4 refer to the 4 males in the house. Well, now Moorsfour can take on yet another new meaning. Child #4!! Yep, we finally made our decision, and November will be a busy month for us as we welcome Moorlach baby #4!!! We are very excited about one more addition to our family.

Got ya! April Fools!
