Adult Danceline?

Somehow I stumbled upon this YouTube video and found myself watching the whole thing and getting such a kick out of it!

Maybe I should start a local team around here?

Tough Love

Ben had a rough morning this morning.  For the past few days I've been reminding him of a bigger reading assignment that needed to get done.  You already know where this is going.  Over the weekend, he told me it was easy and he'd get it done.  Sunday night he decided to work on it, went to his backpack and realized he didn't have the book.  Had he looked earlier, as I suggested, we could have gone to the library.

That left the night before the assignment was due to get it done.  He played outside, played on his ipad, and had basketball practice.  At 11pm, yes 11:00, he decided to get started.  I went to bed.  This morning he overslept which he never does.  After Brian woke him up, he came crying up the stairs because he was going to get up early to do his homework.  He never got it started last night.  He was mad and asked if I could excuse him from school.  Nice try, but no.  I feel terrible, but obviously it's a lesson he's got to learn.

He left in a flurry and left mud tracked all over the kitchen floor.  He was out in the woods digging a hole yesterday rather than doing his homework.

I'm off to mop the kitchen floor.

Luke's Words

He's three going on 13!

Some of his phrases:

Duu-huh!
Mom, your brain doesn't work.
Babloon = balloon
You hit me in the nards
This is amazing!
I want to eat more candy.
I don't want to go poopy.  I'm a baby.
I'm uuupppp!   - every morning from his crib (Why move him if he's not climbing out?)
Seriously?

Brian:  "Patience is a virture."
Luke:  "Patience is for losers!  Patience is for bad guys."

Lutsen

If Brian gets to have a golf trip, I get to have a girls' trip!  Actually, this girls' trip has been happening for about 5-6 years.  About ten of us head up North for hiking, lots of yummy food, lounging around and sleeping in!  This year we went a few weeks earlier than we've gone in the past, and the Fall colors were at their peak.  It was beautiful!

Loved seeing this calm, peaceful lake

The oranges and reds were stunning!

Golf

I'm not sure there is a hobby Brian enjoys more than golf.  He watches it, reads about it, practices it, plays it, and has even been known to fall asleep while holding a golf club.

Brian, his brothers, and our nephew Lane have done a golf get-away for a few years.  They plan this fall trip well in adavance and cram as much golf into 48 hours as is humanly possible.  I know I'll never have the appreciation for the game, but Brian sure does look forward to it!

I'm sure he could tell you exactly what hole this was, how far his ball went, what club he used, and all that data for his brothers, too!

Looking relaxed

Will this be my boys someday?

Active Shooter Training

Before school started, my district put all of its teachers through Active Shooter training.  It's hard to believe our world has come to the place where lock-down drills are common place for kids, and teachers are practicing how to protect children from an active shooter in the building.

For this training, the police and fire departments put us into 3 situations.  In the first, we sat in the cafeteria, simulating lunch time.  A shooter came through the doors firing away and we were directed down various hallways to run and hide.  Some people were told ahead of time they would become victims, so we had to step over bodies.  Once we were to safety, we watched the police go through their training of how they would secure the building and remove the injured.  Their radios played over the PA system, so we were able to hear how chaotic a situation like that would be.

In the second scenario, we milled through the hallways as if it were passing time.  A shooter came  down the hall shooting and we were told to run into classrooms and barricade the doors.  We knew the shooter would make it into one of the classrooms where the gun would jam, and a bystander would wrestle the gun away.  Fortunately I was not in that room.  It was a very surreal feeling to be huddled under a desk, knowing full well this was a mock situation, but with my heart racing.  Multiple times I could see the teams of police officers, guns drawn, walking down the hallway in their formation.

The last scenario was a simulated pepfest.  A gunman came in one of the gym doors firing shots and set off a smoke bomb.  It was cloudy and smelly, and once again the feeling of panic set in.  In all three simulations there were some teachers who were in tears because it all felt so real.

I used to be trained in how to teach interesting math lessons.  Now I do this.

Uncle Boji

I won't even try to apologize for this post being so delayed.  Life gets busy.  At least I'm trying!

At the end of August, before school started, our family went to Jackson, MN to visit Uncle Robert and Grandma at Robert's new home.  We got to see where he lives and tour the church he pastors.  The boys had fun running, yes running, around the church, playing the organ, and pretending to talk in to the microphone.  If those congregation members only knew what 4 boys could do to their church!

From there we drove just a short way to Okiboji, IA (or as Luke calls it, Uncle Boji).  I had heard of it but had never been.  It's a fun, smaller-sized tourtist destination with a big lake and an amusement park.  It was great for our kids.  It wasn't busy, there were fun new rides to check out, and doing all of that with Grandma and Uncle Robert just adds to the fun!

It wouldn't be a staycation without ice cream!

Ferris Wheel

This was just a couple of months ago, and he already looks older than this to me.

The monkeys on this bench made us chuckle.

Heading in to Uncle Boji

At the rate I'm going this year, this might be our Christmas card!

Sorry guys, I had to post this one!
