I've been in a bit of a funk lately. If you don't want to listen to complaining, you'll want to click away now.
I really don't like it when I get in this mood. In a funk is the best way to describe it. Nothing really in particular is bugging me, but it's a combination of everything that's bugging me. That hardly makes any sense, which just adds to my funk!
*It's been really cold for a long time and I'm tired of it.
*My 5th graders at school are on my nerves. They're getting some attitude, wanting to be entertained...being 11 year-olds. Those of you who knew me during my student teaching days, just think "Japan unit" and you'll know how I'm feeling. A week of indoor recess for them doesn't help matters.
*Our dryer isn't working. Spent $230 to have it fixed, and it's still not working.
*Adam is the only kid who has been sleeping well lately. Stomach aches, nightmares, blankets not on just right...I've been getting up lots lately which make me even more tired than usual.
*For whatever reason, I cannot seem to get into an exercise routine, and that is stressing me out! I only work PT for crying out loud! This shouldn't be that hard!
*I don't watch much TV, but the glimpses of the news I see or hear really don't make me feel too good. The economy, job losses, etc... add to my funk.
*I read online that this is typically the most depressing week of the year.
Maybe that it explains it all!

Game Night
Friday nights are often pretty quiet around here, and tonight was no exception. It was another cold MN night, but rather than resorting to a movie, which we often do, Ben, Matt and I decided to pull out some games while Brian was giving Adam his bath. We managed to make it through Bingo and Spongebob Operation without any fighting! We took our time playing and even enjoyed sipping on hot chocolate.

"That's attractive!"
Those were Brian's words to me the other day as I was attempting to cure what seems to be the beginning of a head cold or sinus infection. I've heard people tend to love the neti pot, so I decided to give it a try. It's not often that I'm embarrassed in front of Brian, but I must admit, this was a little awkward.
So far, the neti pot seems to be containing the cold a little bit, but it's not cured yet!

Memory Lane
I bought my first tin of shoe polish the other day. I was expecting that it would help tidy up my two-year-old leather loafers.
It did.
I wasn't expecting it to trigger some memories from my childhood! As soon as I opened the tin and smelled the smell, I immediately was taken back to our house in St.Paul. The bedroom I shared with Holly opened up to a large square landing area, and our dad used a walk-in closet there for his things. His dress shoes and shoe polish were kept there. The smell, the sound of him buffing his shoes, even the way he would hold his shoes while he polished them, all came back to me.
I wasn't expecting shoe polish to bring back simple, but fond memories of my dad and my childhood.

COLD!
This was what my computer told me at 8:30 this morning!
I'm working full days the next 3 days because my job-share partner is leaving for a cruise with her family. I think she's the smart one of the bunch!

Happy Birthday, Holly!
Holly turns 36 today! She is only 18 months older than me, and for the past 9 years we have lived just a block apart from each other. Needless to say, we are pretty close.

For her birthday, Holly wanted to take Christmas and birthday money and shop...for the day...without kids! Can you even begin to imagine? I was the lucky one who got invited along and was more than happy to join in on the fun.
This past Saturday, our morning started with a 9:00 am breakfast at Perkins with our parents. It's been a LONG time since we've been able to just sit and have a 100% adult conversation without kid interruptions. Funny how even with adults, our conversation turned to farts. Did I really just admit that?
Moving along. We left for shopping after breakfast and headed up north to an outlet mall. We managed to put a good 8 hours in there, staying until closing and finding some GREAT deals! (More on those in a bit.)
Holly was so prepared for this day that she packed snacks, drinks, a list of store hours...you name it! We didn't have to stop for lunch thanks to the snacks, but by 8:00 pm we were getting hungry and grabbed burgers on the run. We couldn't waste any precious time getting back to our stomping grounds... Target and Walmart! We mangaged to get a good hour in at Target before they closed, and then headed to Walmart. We lasted another hour or so there, but didn't have it in us to stay until closing. Afterall, they are open 24 hours! We finally pulled into my driveway at 11:30!! We were gone from 8:30 am - 11:30 pm...shopping and kidless! AMAZING!

A New Year
Welcome to 2009!
It always takes me a while to get used to saying and writing a new year, and this year is no different! With the new year comes new changes and challenges, resolutions and reservations, and new learnings and losses.
Changes:
*Boys' school will be starting at a new time...30 minutes later!
*Brian's coaching job is questionable for next fall
*Possibly replace our 1996 Civic? (Traci, the car has been great!)
Challenges:
*We feel the economic pinch as most people do
*Health challenges for various extended family members
*Keeping 3 boys happy, busy and productive is ALWAYS a challenge!
Resolutions:
*Both Brian and I want to continue running
*Brian would like to lose 20 pounds
*I would like to lose 10 pounds
*I would like to go to bed earlier and get up earlier to exercise
Reservations:(as in trip reservations!)
*Possible trip to Chicago/Indianpolis
*Possible North Shore trip
*Possible "camping" trip to visit friends in Wisconsin
Learnings:
*Ben 3rd grade next fall
*Matt 1st grade next fall
*Matt learning the game of baseball this summer
*Adam age 2 1/2...always learning!
Losses:
*Hopefully we'll only have good kinds of losses! Like some weight!
