Adam, Luke & Grandma

I've been such a bad blogger lately. Life has gotten busy and I'm not keeping up with it! Grandma has been here a couple of times in the past few weeks to help us out while we juggle 3 different spring breaks. Here are some recent pictures she took while visiting. We always enjoy our time with Grandma!

Germ-Fest

We're still not healthy here. Today Ben missed his 3rd consecutive school day. He's been in for a strep-test and in a second time for an exam, but we've been told it's the good ol' virus. 102 temp since Sunday, sore throat, headache, and that was following 12+ hours of vomiting. He's even said he's bored of being home and bored with TV. I don't blame him one bit.

I've worked one day in the past four, and tomorrow isn't looking promising since Brian's got his second night of conferences. Ben's temp right now is 101.4, and Matt just woke up from a 3 hour after school nap and has a temp of 101.3.

Ben's school play production in which he has a part is tomorrow night. We're not too optimistic that he'll be there. It's such a bummer.

On the bright side, I was home on an absolutely beautiful day, got to have the windows open and got all of my screens washed and put back on.

So far Luke is only survivor...let's hope he holds on.

Hurting

We are in rough shape over here.

Wed night a little before midnight Adam started throwing up. He didn't keep anything down until supper time Thursday. I was home Thursday morning and Brian came home for the afternoon. By the time school ended Thursday, I was having terrible stomach cramping.

I pretty much haven't left the fetal position since Thursday night. No throwing up for me, but some diarrhea. I put in for a sub for Friday and I'm so glad I did. There's no way I could have taught. The boys didn't have school, so that made my day rather challenging since I was home with all of them, but they were as helpful as their sweet little selves could be.

When Brian got home Friday afternoon, he was pretty much doubled over. Our symptoms are a little different, but we're both hurting. That makes parenting 4 boys quite difficult. Again, they have been great tonight, but I think they are getting incredibly bored! So far, no one else has gotten the bug, and I just pray they won't!

**Update**
9:30 Friday night: Ben just threw up.
11:30: Ben again. With him sick, his basketball team is down to 4 people for their last tournament of the season that was supposed to take place this weekend. They'll have to forfeit.
1:30 am: Ben

Random

Lots of random things in no particular order:

Adam woke up puking last night. Totally unloaded, but at least most of it was on the kitchen floor. Now I'm wondering if it will go through everyone. Adam's comment this morning, "Is puke Spanish for throw-up?"

I had conferences this week. Overall they were fine, but a couple of families just don't want to believe their child is anything less than perfect. I find that SOOOO annoying.

At one conference I shared this spelling sentence their son had written. The spelling word was usually. "I usually get my testes turned in on time." Made me chuckle.

Ben did not advance in the science fair. While I felt bad for him and he was a little teary about it, secretly I was relieved that we don't have to think about it anymore. It was a good reality check for him when most things come so easily.

Now that Matt is 9 he qualifies for speech services at school to start working on that tricky /r/ sound! He's excited about going to speech a couple times a week.

I'm struggling to eat healthy. I clearly have a sugar addiction that needs to be broken.

A high school acquaintance of mine and his wife had baby #3 last week. The baby was born not breathing and had a faint heartbeat. He has since been in the NICU with lots of complications and the looming fear of brain damage. It really puts things in perspective.

Luke is almost 17 months old. He is a total ham and is repeating everything we say. He wants nothing more than to be right in the mix with his older brothers. All 4 of them put on a few little skits/singing/dancing shows for us last night. It was great!

We juggle 3 school districts in our family and we have 3 different weeks off for spring break this year. In a way it's kind of nice, but it's also a logistical nightmare.

My house is always messy, but it honestly doesn't bother me that much anymore.

Busy Weekend

We had a busy weekend and have no pictures to prove it!

Saturday morning Brian, Ben and Matt headed 1 1/2 hours away for a basketball tournament. Ben's team lost both games pretty badly, but it sounded like the eating out with buddies from the team, swimming in the pool and some hotel tag took their minds off the losses.

While they were away at the hotel, I was home with Luke and Adam, and Uncle Robert who was staying the night before flying home to KY early Sunday morning. We enjoyed a mellow night at home with a movie and some good ol' playing time with the boys.

Sunday was a different story with a win by the 5th grade team! Ben was thrilled to have scored a season high for himself ~ 12 points! I wish I could have been there to see it.

The basketball crew got home just in time to clean up, change, and head to the high school for a huge band concert. The school district combines all the 5th grades from the 5 elementary schools, two 8th grade bands, and one high school ensemble. Each group got to play a couple of songs on their own, and they finished the show with a 450-member band playing the high school fight song. It was fun to see the progression of the musicians as they get older and more advanced with their playing. Nana offered to stay home with Luke while he napped, and the rest of us and Papa enjoyed the concert.

Ben LOVES band and we're thrilled. Hopefully he'll continue with it for many years to come. Matt's already talking about wanting to play the trombone, too!

We're heading into another busy week. Conferences for both Brian and me, more basketball practice, a couple of dr.s appts and the last basketball tournament of the season next weekend.

Whew.
