Once a Lake-Liner

Always a Lake-Liner!

I've been out of high school for 18 years. I guess that makes me pretty old! This past weekend, the dance team I was a member of for 4 years had their 30th reunion. Several alumni came and learned a 2 min 20 second dance and then performed it in front of a gym full of people. The current team was having their annual show that night, and the alumni group was one of several extra performances during the show. 3 of us from the classes of '92-'93 were there, and one member of the class of '86 was there, but other than that it seemed like everyone else was a 2009 grad. I'm sure the cute little thing that got to stand next to me and do kicks was horrified to be hooking up to an old lady like me. I was even dancing with two former students who are now dance team alum. Crazy.

Our routine included about 45 high kicks, 2 sets of splits, a double turn and a toe touch! I won't tell you which of these elements I opted not to do, but I didn't do all of them. I am still sore from our day of dancing, but it was worth it.

Even after 18 years it's still fun to get out on that floor and shake it!

The old ladies!

I'm in the back, second from the right

I'm in the front line, 5th from right

Kickline: if you count the girl in the middle who's not kicking as #1, go to the right and I'm girl #5

Blog Stress

Should having a family blog cause me stress? You wouldn't think so, but in my case, it is. I've been busy, busy lately, but still know that I haven't posted in a while. That's stressing me out. Silly, I know.

So here is my post.

Hope you enjoyed it.

The Projects Have Begun

I'm really starting to feel like the mom of school-aged kids now. Projects are upon us, and they seem to be coming in full force.

First up is the solar system diorama. Fortunately Ben had a passion for the solar system when he was 6, so it didn't take too much convincing to get him motivated to want to do this. He came up with the idea on his own and did most of the painting himself . He has yet to write the report, but he's got some good notes started.

The Workspace

Everyone's Favorite: Uranus

The Finished Product

Once the solar system is taken care of it's "Which Cheese Grows Mold the Fastest?" for his science fair project. We haven't gotten any further than that, but I'm certainly looking forward to platefuls of moldy cheese strategically placed all over my house. It takes me back to my 7th grade days when my project was making cheese, and I even set my alarm to get up in the night and stir the cheese...or something like that.

Destination Imagination has begun, and the crafting and building will soon be taking place. Ben's team has decided to tackle a challenge in which they create a tall structure out of newspaper and write a play with homemade props to go with it. As one of the coaches I still need to read up and find out exactly what we're supposed to do, but the tournament is in March, so we've got some time to work.

Of course what elementary school wouldn't be complete without Valentine's Boxes? That will be on the weekend plans in a couple of weeks. I think I lucked out though, because I'm guessing boys are slightly less picky about their boxes than girls !

Time to reload the glue gun and get started!

My Favorite Part of the Day....

is going through wet, smelly snow clothes!
We have a decent sized mud-room and it still ends up all over the kitchen!

Any tips?

Feeling a Bit Sluggish

It was a bit of a rough one getting back into the swing of things today. Not for the boys. They all did great! No problems getting up and out the door for school. But for me, it was a different story. I felt tired, even though I tried to get to bed at a decent time last night. I felt out of it at school, even a little weepy at times. I'm not quite sure why, but when people would ask how my break was, I'd tell them, and I'd get teary talking about being with family, spending lazy days with my kids, and realizing it was all over for this year. I managed to hit the club tonight to work off some of the stress that must be pent up inside, but now it's 9:15 and I've got school work to do. My resolution for this year....be better about how I use (or waste) my time!
