Memorial Weekend

We had a wonderful 3-day weekend! My SIL and her two girls were here for a couple of days and we had a great time celebrating her oldest daughter's 7th birthday, swimming at the pool, watching the cousins play, and she and I even got two 3 mile runs in.

I have LOADS of school work to get done. Papers to correct, memory books to create, report cards to complete, pack the classroom since I'm moving to a new building, and here it is, almost 10:00 on Monday night and I haven't touched my bag. Instead, I decided to start painting a bedroom and bathroom downstairs. When the baby arrives in October, we'll need some bedroom space on the main floor, so Ben is planning to head downstairs to his very own room! If we don't start working on it now, it will never get done, so between yesterday and today, I was able to crank out both rooms! Once everything is in place and put back together, I'll take some pics to post.

Now, off to grade some papers!

Grand Day

My Dad recently blogged about a Grandparents' Day he, my mom, and Grandma Marilyn attended for Matt's 1st grade class. Rather than reinvent the wheel, pop on over and check out his post!

Overwhelmed

I seem to write this post every few months, but here I go again.

I am feeling very overwhelmed right now. May is a crazy month for teachers, and as much as I know it, it still gets me every single year! Add to that end of the year busyness for the boys, the start of the baseball season which means baseball 4 nights a week, packing up my entire classroom because I'm moving to a new building in the fall, wondering and waiting to hear where Brian will be placed in a job next year, annoying house projects that require phone calls and repair men, and then the thought of doing all of this next year at this time with a baby in the house!

Don't get me wrong. I know some of you have 6 kids. I know some of you just delivered twins. I know some of you are caring for someone with a disability. I know some of you work full-time outside the home. I know I shouldn't be complaining about the "good" ways in which we are busy. But it gets to me sometimes. I feel guilty about how messy my house is. I can't afford a house cleaner. I feel guilty about how little I've been cooking lately. Our bodies and our checkbook can't afford to keep eating out. I feel guilty about losing patience with the boys simply because I've got a lot on my mind, but I'm tired and I lose it sometimes.

Venting helps. Any other words of wisdom?

Baby Boys

My SIL and brother had their twin baby boys today! We're so excited for them, pray that everyone will continue to gain strength, and thankful that everything seems to have gone well!

Nathan James (5.7 lbs) and Isaac Henry (4.9 lbs)

Since when?

Since when does a prescription for pink eye cost $75?????

Adam's got pink eye, or so the dr. thinks. She thought it was possible that he had scratched his eye somehow, but thought we should treat it due to the colds that have been rampant in our house lately.

I feel like an old lady who only talks about all her illnesses. I feel like we're flying through money due to copays and rx lately! UGH!!

Adam gets his cast off on Monday. That'll be another copay....

Still Sick

Yes, I'm still fighting this crud I've got. I finally filled an amoxicillin rx and that seems to be getting things draining a little bit. The cough is still the most annoying part and keeps me up much of the night. I missed 2 days of school last week and spent most of Saturday on the couch. With Mother's Day tomorrow, I'm sure I'll have permission to veg at least one more day!

Not much else going on...just a lot of coughing.

When I was reading books with Adam tonight he was touching my legs and said they were very spikey. I guess a shower and shaving my legs needs to be in the plans soon!

Sick

The past few days have not been good ones around here. I'm 14 weeks along and thought I was in the clear for any more morning sickness, but the baby has proved me wrong and the last several mornings have been rough. Haven't actually puked, but I've sure wanted to! To top things off, I've caught a nasty head cold. Very congested, annoying cough that's not productive, and very little voice left. That makes teaching a little tough.

**UPDATE**
The nurse practitioner at the minute clinic thinks I've got a sinus infection and bronchitis. He wasn't comfortable prescribing anything due to the pregnancy and suggested I go see my regular doctor. I'll be heading there tomorrow morning. I've already sent my sub plans in and am planning a nap for tomorrow afternoon!!
*************

Given all these circumstances, I told my students the other day that I was pregnant. I figured that would give me "permission" to take it easy if need be in the afternoon. I put the ultrasound picture on the document camera and the comments from the class were pretty funny. The girls knew right away that it was an ultrasound picture. The boys on the other hand, weren't quite sure what they were looking at. As they heard comments from the girls they started saying things like, "That's a REAL baby?" "That's in someone's stomach?" "How can they get a camera to take that picture?" Eventually one of the girls said, "Is that YOUR baby?" When I said yes, the whole class broke out in applause. Very cute! Now I get to teach Family Life in about two weeks and watch them stare at me and put all the pieces together. Lovely.
