Suburban Leaf Pile

We finally had a decent fall weekend here. Most of October has been unseasonably cold, we've already had a couple of snowfalls, and many of us were left wondering if we'd have to blow out our driveways before we trick-or-treat in a couple of weeks.

This weekend we had beautiful blue skies and crip, cool fall air. The leaves (those that are left and didn't fall off due to the cold temps we've already had) seem to be close to their peak colors. The boys wanted to get outside and make a leaf pile to jump in. Living in a subdivision that's only about 9 years old, we don't have very large trees around here. The boys tried to rake up what they could, went to the neighbor's yard with their wheelbarrow to steal some leaves, and even smacked the trees with their rakes to try to shake down more leaves. The result was a rather pathetic looking leaf pile, but they had fun nonetheless.

Working hard to get more leaves!

Impressive, huh?

A year or two ago, J announced, "Fall is here. Our leaf fell."

I do wish we had some big ol' trees to drop leaves for the kids to play in!

Looks like they had fun...with or without a big pile of leaves. It was a beautiful weekend. Only one kid home today recovering. Hopefully all can be back at school tomorrow! Have a great week.

We have WAY more leaves than we know what to do with. You are MORE THAN welcome to come over any time and rake them into a pile -- we'd even let you jump in it in exchange for the raking help. We spend nearly all fall raking and raking and raking some more!
Enjoy the beautiful weather!

I am in the same boat as Shana. Only we end up mostly chopping them up with the lawn mower in the yard and leaving them in the woods and trails! But I would be more than happy to share with your family.

Do your kids do leaf rubbings with crayons? That is about as artistic as I get with our homeschool!
